Siem Reap – Part l

 Source

Siem Reap was our first destination when we arrived to Cambodia after our 3 hour flight from Nepal. The city is situated in the northwestern Cambodia in the province of Siem Reap and is home to many, many, many touristic attractions. As we obviously couldn’t visit all of them, we had to narrow them down to only a couple. Needless to say, they were all extraordinary. We ended up staying there for one full week.

Old Market
First off, we did some shopping at to the Old Market.  Source

The Old Market is a place that attracts a lot of tourists. From food stands to souvenir stands, it’s everything any tourist needs to see if they want to have a glimpse at the Cambodian lifestyle. There were tons of little souvenirs to buy and we found these beautiful colourful scarves. Of course, we both had to get one!   Source

As we are both fruit lovers, we had a lot of fun trying out all sorts of different types of fruits such as mangosteen, lychee, rambutan and longan that all originated from Cambodia. They tasted so much fresher and sweeter as there were harvested locally. What’s better than snacking on some fresh dragonfruit as you walk down the streets of Siem Reap on a hot summer day?

Another food that we had the chance to try was a steamed banana cake. It’s a traditional dessert that consists of sticky rice and banana. Simple, but so flavourful. Source

Seems like a delight, doesn’t it? It certainly was!                                     Source
